Preceding the annual release of the Madden NFL video game has been the revelation of the player ratings describing just how good each one is, and a recent twist has created a 99 Club, reserved for the best of the best that year’s game has to offer.
For the 2020 game, four players achieved that coveted number and each one was announced on The Checkdown, a social media page covering the NFL, in successive days on a mural housed on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Defensive lineman Aaron Donald of the LA Rams and linebackers Bobby Wagner (Seattle Seahawks) and Khalil Mack (Chicago Bears) were the first ones shown before the Houston Texans’ wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
The lone offensive player in the club reposted the announcement saying, “guess that mean I’m a cheat code now.”
Hopkins enters his seventh year fresh off his second All-Pro season featuring career highs in catches (115) and yards (1,572) while also accounting for 11 touchdowns.
