Local area nonprofits kicked off Giving Tuesday Katy with a chili cookoff and festival at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department at 19636 Saums Road, just east of Fry Road. The festival raised funds in support of six nonprofits that are active in the Katy area.
“We encouraged businesses, individuals and families to come out to #GivingTuesdayKaty and see how they can be more involved with the community in which they work and live. #GivingTuesdayKaty is part of the #GivingTuesday global movement to bring generosity and change to the world and the communities in which we live,” said event organizer Sarah Beaton via a press release.
Funds raised go to supporting Abigail’s Place, The Arc of Katy, Joe Joe Bear Foundation, Katy Responds, Stuff the Sleigh, upLIFTed Movement and Katy Area YMCAs. Additional events are set to happen throughout the month of November as nonprofits work to meet increased demands for services during the holiday season.
