Three girls, Hannah Gipson, Meagan Blaschke, and Maddie Goad represented Sealy High School at the 2019 Bluebonnet Girls State held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin June 16-22.

David Molina from Sealy High School attended Boys State, held on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. The students were honored with a hamburger supper on July 15 at the Legion Hall. Also in attendance were their parents.

Grace Holtkamp, coordinator for the Girls State program for the American Legion Auxiliary, began the program with a brief history of Girls State. The program began in 1941and 1942 at Baylor University, breaking for two years because of World War II. This year marked the 75th anniversary of the program that teaches a practical application of Americanism and citizenship. There were 608 girls from across Texas that came together to form cities with their own government and elected officials. Each girl gave the audience some of their most memorable experiences during their week at TLU. Each girl also thanked the sponsors for the program: Citizens State Bank, Sealy Lions Club, and Sealy Rotary.

Legion Chaplin Rev. Lawrence Page introduced David Molina, who attended Boys State. He shared his experience at Boys State involving approximately 1,000 boys from all parts of Texas. He also thanked Legion Post 442 for its support and Patrick Blazek who attended Boys State.when he was a junior at Sealy High School. These two programs will prove beneficial for the students when they enter their last year at Sealy High School. These young people will realize long after their experience how important their experience was.
