Fulshear Branch Library supports student success with free, weekly engaging and educational programs for students

With nearly a month of the new school year already complete, the Fulshear Branch Library has announced its September After-School Break and Creative Connections programs and activities for local students and their families.

These programs, all of which are free, held weekly, and cater to different age groups, support the youth’s academic efforts while providing them with engaging, inspiring, and, importantly, restorative activities to keep them curious about learning over a broad range of subjects.

After-School Break | 4:15 pm | Wednesdays

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade can increase their knowledge at the library’s After-School Break program. This weekly program takes place on Wednesdays and is made possible by the Friends of the Fulshear Branch Library, the branch’s nonprofit volunteer group. Thanks to the group, materials for all After-School programs are provided. However, because space is limited in the After-School programs, free tickets are required and are made available at the Youth Services desk starting at 3:30 pm.

On Sept. 2, participating students are encouraged to put their creativity and engineering skills to work with LEGO bricks and other building materials during the library’s “Building Club” session. The September theme is Back-to-School Challenge.

On Sept. 9, the kids can enjoy an afternoon of interactive, spontaneous, and silly art in the “Roll and Draw” program, in which the kids roll dice to determine which parts of a picture to draw, and on Sept. 16, during the “Sea Creatures” program, they can learn about sea animals while creating an underwater scene.

On Sept. 23, the children can learn how to draw a colorful lizard step by step and add their own artistic touches to make it one of a kind. This program incorporates a texture technique, along with other art materials, to give each lizard a unique look. And rounding out the month’s activities is the self-explanatory “After-School Break: Afternoon of Fun” on Sept. 30. This program is precisely what it sounds like: an afternoon of delightful engagement with peers.

Creative Connections | 6-7 pm | Thursdays

For students in fourth through eighth grade, the library offers the Creative Connections program. This weekly program, which takes place at 6 pm on Thursdays, is made possible by the Friends of the Fulshear Branch Library. Just like the After-School Break program, materials for Creative Connections will be provided. Please keep in mind that space is also limited in these programs, so free tickets are required and are made available at the Youth Services desk starting at 5:15 pm.
