Movie in the park

Monsters Inc. movie showing at George Bush Park, 16756 Westheimer Pkwy, Pavilion #3. The movie begins at 7 p.m. Bring your own blankets, chairs and snacks. Popcorn is free and snocones are available for purchase.

Aug. 4
National IPA Day

National IPA (for India Pale Ale) Day is on Aug. 4, and No Label Brewing Co. is hosting one of the best IPAs in the world and some others that aren't too shabby. IPAs include Cali Boy West Coast IPA, Sittin’ Sidehaze NEIPA, 11 AMP American IPA and Los Gemelos Double IPA.

The event is from 3-10 p.m. at No Label Brewing Co., 5351 1st St. Live music, food trucks, vendors, and special IPA Day merchandise will be available.

Aug. 6
The Spicolis Back to the ‘80s Tour

The Spicolis are an authentic 80s party band, playing tribute to the bands that made MTV the phenomenon it became when it first aired in 1981 and actually played real music. No gimmicks, just the music. The show begins at 9 p.m. The Spicolis will perform at the Wildcatter Saloon, 26913 Katy Fwy. Katy Heritage Society Spirit Night

Texas Tradition, 5321 Highway Blvd., hosts Katy Heritage Society Spirit Day. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the society, which is Katy’s oldest nonprofit.

Meet the Teachers in Royal ISD

Royal ISD hosts Meet the Teacher nights at all its campuses. Here is the schedule:

  • Early Childhood Center: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 10.
  • Royal Elementary School: 5-7 p.m. Aug. 10.
  • STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math): 5-7 p.m. Aug. 10.
  • Royal Junior High: 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 11.
  • Royal High School: 5-8 p.m. Aug. 11.

Katy Summer Nights Movie in Katy Harvest Plaza

The City of Katy Parks and Recreation Department hosts a showing of The Sandlot.

The event features free popcorn, pre-movie activities and giveaways, with snacks and drinks available for purchase. Participants can bring chairs, blankets and food/drinks. Glass, alcohol and pets are not permitted. An adult must accompany all minors.

The event is from 7-10 p.m. Aug. 12 at Katy Harvest Plaza in downtown Katy. The movie starts at around 8 p.m.

Katy Christian Ministries Community Food Fair

Join Parkway Fellowship (North Katy) and Katy Christian Ministries as they fight to end food insecurity in the Greater Katy area. The ongoing community food fair events are aimed at feeding local families and providing fresh produce in a time of need.

The food fair is from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the church, 5819 10th St.

Katy Prairie Market

A family-fun market for north Katy communities. It features vendors with farm products, artisan goods, food, drinks and more.

Texas Eagles band to perform

The Texas Eagles can reproduce the Eagles’ music like very few others can, performing all of the hits of the Eagles much like the album version. Appealing to a wide range of ages, the Texas Eagles are loved by many and perform a combination of heartfelt ballads and rock anthems, remembered for their unmistakable vocal harmonies.

Back to school bash

Join the Nottingham Country Elementary School PTA as it celebrates the end of summer. The bash is at 3 p.m. Aug. 13 at Cosmic Air Park, 1210 Fry Road.

Tickets to the bash, which is not a drop-off event, are $18 and include two hours of jump time and socks. Pay at the door and say you are with Nottingham Country Elementary School to get the deal.

Royal ISD students return to school. Drivers are urged to be mindful of school bus pickup times, hours and driving zones.

Katy Market Day

The monthly Katy Market Day features vendors, a food truck, beer garden, entertainment, and inflatable attractions for children's entertainment. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic Downtown Katy. For more information, call Betsy Proctor at 281-391-1993.

Aug. 30
Building Bridges Golf Tournament

Supply Bridge Ministries is hosting its first-ever fundraising golf tournament, which will help it continue reaching out to communities, help organizations that serve communities beyond our walls, and build relationships to show the power of #CollaborationOverCompetition in the nonprofit world. Proceeds also help ministries needing resources to fulfill their cause.

This year’s tournament also benefits a great local organization called Children Like Loni which provides special needs resources and programs, food pantry services, and after school meal programs to families locally in the Katy, Cypress, Bear Creek and surrounding areas.
