Encore: Katy ISD All-State Musicians Shine at TMEA

The sound of excellence resonated across Texas this month as 51 Katy ISD students earned the prestigious All-State Musician honor and performed on one of the nation’s most elite stages at the Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention in San Antonio. The accomplished musicians were recognized by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees ahead of its February regular meeting for achieving the highest distinction available to high school performers in Texas.

More than 70,000 student musicians statewide audition each year for limited All-State ensemble seats. Fewer than three percent advance through multiple rounds of rigorous evaluation to earn selection, a spokesperson for Katy ISD said in the February 23 press release. Those named All-State perform in TMEA ensembles before thousands of music educators and attendees from across the country and world.

“This achievement places these students among the very best young musicians in Texas,” Katy ISD Executive Director of Fine Arts Damon Archer said. “Their artistry, discipline and commitment reflect the strength of Katy ISD fine arts and the extraordinary support of our directors, campuses and families. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our District on the state’s premier stage.”

District leaders and trustees also recognized the critical role of Katy ISD fine arts educators and campus administrators who guide students through the demanding audition process and preparation for performance at the TMEA Convention.

The All-State designation represents years of musical training, countless hours of rehearsal and sustained academic and artistic excellence. Katy ISD continues to rank among Texas’ leading districts for All-State selections across band, choir and orchestra, the district spokesperson said.
