Katy ISD has announced the graduation dates for its nine high schools. Time for all the graduations is 8 p.m. at Legacy Stadium, 5070 Franz Road.

The Scripps Howard Foundation and the University of North Texas Mayborn School of Journalism’s Emerging Journalists Program is designed to prepare the next generation of journalists and help ensure newsrooms better represent the broader population.
This five-part program will create a strong mentor network between students and working journalists, a series of workshops that will encourage and recruit new cadres of students, “career bootcamps” in partnership with the national associations for Black and Hispanic journalists, opportunities for students to have their work published by major news organizations, and outreach and continuing education programs for regional high school teachers.
Sara Gonzales, Paetow High journalism teacher, has been selected as the 2023 Teaching Ambassador for the Emerging Journalists Program for Texas. For more information and to apply, visit the website journalism.unt.edu/emergingjournalists. Application deadline is March 27.
The Phenomenal Pearls Education and Charitable Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships.
The foundation is a 501(c) 3 organization that works with the Chi Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to provide programs and services that empower communities in need. According to its website, the foundation’s mission is to intellectually and financially empower individuals and the community to achieve more by mobilizing the power and resources of volunteers and donors.

Swastik Roy, from James E. Randolph Elementary, and Ahdav Vijay from Stockdick Junior High, won the recent Katy ISD spelling bee. Their victories advance them to the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee. Eric Dong, from Beckendorff Junior High, will serve as the alternate for secondary.
Katy ISD announced that its online registration for the 2023-24 school year will be open from April 3-May 5 and will reopen during the summer. For questions or assistance during the registration process, please reach out to the schools to which you are zoned.
