Russell Faldyn and David Youngblood will speak at the Men Who Mentor breakfast, set for 7:30-9 a.m. in the Legacy Stadium Community Rooms, on the south side of the stadium.
Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski will moderate the discussion between Faldyn and Youngblood, both of whom are expected, with their wives, to become Katy ISD campus namesakes later this year.
The men’s-only breakfast will celebrate powerful influence of men who are willing to mentor Katy ISD elementary and secondary male students.
A district naming advisory committee recommended Youngblood and his wife, Terri, to be the namesakes for Elementary 45. Another such committee recommended Faldyn and his wife, Cindie, to be namesakes for Elementary 46.
The Youngbloods and Faldyns are former educators and district leaders who continue to contribute to Katy ISD. Both couples are still actively involved in the school district and across campuses.
Trustees are expected to take final action on the name recommendations at their Jan. 23 meeting.
Elementary 45 will be located at 25600 Longenbaugh Road. Elementary 46 will be located at 25615 Clay Road. Both locations are in the northwest quadrant of Katy ISD.
The breakfast is part of the KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) Mentor Program, which matches a caring adult with a student on the brink of success. The program’s primary focus is on relationship building rather than tutoring, although increased student academic success often occurs as a result of that mentoring relationship.
