Jordan High robotics team wins state title

Following a competitive state robotics championship event earlier this month in Houston, the Jordan High Golden Warriors took home the championship title, defeating 80 teams from across Texas. The Golden Warriors, along with the Cinco Ranch High CRyptonite and Tompkins High Steel Tallons, have all qualified for, and are headed to, the FIRST World Championship Robotics Tournament, which was set for April 19-22 in Houston.

Jason Chen, Jordan High Golden Warriors team mentor, said the team exceeded its game plan, which it had been perfecting since the start of the season.

“They have demonstrated great ingenuity during complex challenges and have demonstrated that hard work does pay off,” Chen said.

Six Katy ISD teams competed at the FIRST Texas District Championship meet:

• Cinco Ranch High CRyptonite
• Jordan High Golden Warriors
• Morton Ranch High Nuts N’ Boltz
• Paetow High Glow with the Flow
• Seven Lakes High RoboSpartans
• Tompkins High Steel Talons

Additionally, Cinco Ranch High School CRyptonite won the Autonomous Award while Morton Ranch High School Nuts N' Boltz won the Spirit Award and Paetow High School Glow with the Flow achieved division finalist at state.

The FIRST World Championship is an international competition where top teams from around the world compete to take the prestigious title of being named a “FIRST Robotics Competition World Champion.” Over 600 teams participate each year. The FIRST World Championship Tournament is one of two student world championship events that take place every year. Earlier this month, Katy ISD announced two robotics teams were also gearing up for the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship which will take place in Dallas.

Royal ISD Education Foundation Denim and Diamonds fundraiser set for April 28

The Royal ISD Education Foundation's annual Denim and Diamonds gala fundraiser is at 6 p.m. April 28 at Hemi Hideout, 1172 Wilpitz Road in Brookshire.

The gala includes dinner, cash bar, live music by the Earl Sanders Jr. Band, casino games, silent and live auction, and more, all in the incomparable Hemi Hideout venue. All proceeds go toward classroom grants and scholarships for graduating seniors. The foundation provided Royal ISD students with over $75,000 in grant funds during the 2022-23 school year.
