The Houston Dynamo dropped to fourth in the Western Conference after a loss to Austin FC on Saturday, falling to Austin 3-0 at Q2 Stadium.

Dynamo fall to fourth in Western Conference after loss to Austin FC

The Houston Dynamo dropped to fourth in the Western Conference after a loss to Austin FC on Saturday, falling to Austin 3-0 at Q2 Stadium.

Houston was riding a three game win streak into the game but from the start the Dynamo struggled against Austin.  

Austin scored twice in the first half. They took the lead in the 22nd minute, when Ethan Finley latched on to a cross and scored. Austin doubled its lead in the 32nd minute when Gyasi Zardes scored off a cross from Sebastian Driussi and Julio Cascante scored the final goal of the match of a pass from Julio Cascante.

The Dynamo nearly scored in the 15th minute when Nelson Quinones got past the defense and to the end line but his cross was saved by the Austin goalkeeper. Hector Herrera had a big chance in the 42nd minute but he was also denied, as the Austin defense was able to block the shot just outside the six-yard box.

Houston ended the night with 10 shots, three of them being on goal. They had 48% possession and 80% pass accuracy. But they were never able to pose as big of a threat as Austin.

The Dynamo fell to 8-8-3on the season, having garnered 27 points in 19 games. Houston sites two points behind the Seattle Sounders but has a game in hand over the third place Sounders and could overtake the Sounders with a win in their next game.
