Unprecedented winter weather – including the possibility of snow in the Katy area – forced local districts to suspend athletic activities this week.
Katy ISD – already closed January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Day – announced January 18 that the district would also be closed on Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22.
“Please be advised that all Katy ISD campuses and facilities will be closed Tuesday Jan. 21 and Wednesday Jan. 22, due to hazardous weather conditions. Families and employees received notification today concerning schedule changes to before- and after- school activities and which employees should report/not report to campus locations, depending on their duties,” the district said in the announcement.
Royal ISD also announced similar closures in a January 19 email:
· Monday 1/20 - Student/staff holiday in observance of MLK Day
· Tuesday 1/21 - All district facilities are closed and all after-school activities are canceled
· Wednesday 1/22 - All district facilities closed and all after-school activities canceled, except the special school board meeting at 6 p.m. - it will be held as scheduled.
