David Leon Miller Sr., 83 of Sealy, Texas, was born on Nov. 25, 1935, in Houston, Texas, to parents Lee Arthur Miller and Ethel May Warner Miller. David passed away on Aug. 15, 2019, in Katy, Texas.

David Leon Miller Sr., 83 of Sealy, Texas, was born on Nov. 25, 1935, in Houston, Texas, to parents Lee Arthur Miller and Ethel May Warner Miller. David passed away on Aug. 15, 2019, in Katy, Texas.

David was raised in Houston and attended Houston schools. The family moved to Sealy in 1952, where David continued his education until he decided to join the United States Air Force in 1954. During his military service time, David was stationed at Fort Snelling AFB in Minneapolis. It was here that David met Jeanette M. Thompson. Soon after, they both fell in love with each other they were married and welcomed their first child, JoAnn, who came early. JoAnn sadly passed three days after her arrival. Later they welcomed their second child, David, and their third child Elizabeth.

David was transferred to Thule Air Force Base in Greenland for one year. Then he found himself again with transfer orders, this time to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. While serving in the Air Force David was a firefighter. Upon discharge from the service, David and his family returned to Sealy for a short time. They later returned back to Eglin Air Force Base area and David went to work for the City of Fort Walton Beach Fire Department for a couple of years. Again, years later David and his family went back to Sealy, this time David went to work for his father in a Gulf service station. He later purchased a wrecker and opened Miller’s Wrecker Service in 1963. He has since celebrated 50 years in the wrecker business. The wrecker service continued until 2018, when David’s health forced it to be closed.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Arthur and Ethel Mae Miller; daughter, JoAnn Lyn Miller; son, David L. Miller Jr.; granddaughters, Amanda Miller Majewski and Cassidy Louise Schoppe; brother, Lewis (Katherine) Miller; sister, Merle (A.D.) Burgess; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Margarette Thompson; brothers-in-law, Donald Thompson and Milton Case; sister-in-law, Barbara Thompson; nephew, Doug Thompson; and nieces, Ethel Lee Kessler, Kelly Bauch, and Alice Case.

David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette “Jan” Miller; daughter, Elizabeth Miller Schoppe of El Paso; grandchildren, Bethany Bunch (Nick) of El Paso, David Schoppe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Ivory Sanders, Cody Bunch, Nora Bunch, Carson Bunch, sister, Betty Henry of Sealy, brothers-in-law, David Thompson (Laurie), Edward Thompson, and Dale Thompson (MaryLou), sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Case, Kathy Walton (Doug), and Joyce Weherman (Darcy); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel at 1140 Meyer St., Sealy. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Sealy at 707 8th St., beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Pattison Cemetery in Pattison.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Sealy Youth Group.
