Last year’s match-up between the two teams, which Katy won 41-37, was named a Game of the Year contender by the publication. “This year’s kickoff has all the ingredients for the same experience with Katy head coach Gary Joseph’s famed ‘Weak Eagle” defense facing Dickinson’s power run game,” the article said. The article mentioned Katy senior linebacker Jeremiah Smith, a two-time First Team All-District honoree, Team Captain Isaiah McMillan and all-district nickelback Cooper Knott.
