The Houston Dash found their newest midfielder and it’s a familiar face for those around Katy ISD.

The Dash announced last week that they had signed Tompkins graduate Bárbara Olivieri to a one-year deal with an option for the 2024 season.

Tompkins was a three-year letterman at Tompkins, where she led the Falcons to two state final appearances and a 64-9-6 record over the course of her career. She had 59 goals and 37 assists during her high school career and was named the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year in 2019.

“Bárbara is an exciting young player who brings creativity on the ball as an attacking midfielder and a range to score goals from all over the pitch,” Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. “She can break lines, find space to create and combine with teammates, or create chances for herself. We’re thrilled to bring her back to her hometown and see her development with the club.”

Olivieri signs with Houston after a year in the Liga MX Femenil in Mexico with Monterrey CF. She made 19 appearances in the league, scoring three goals during her time with the team.

She joined Monterrey after two years at Texas A&M, where she was a force for the Aggies. She earned SEC Freshman of the year honors in 2020, also being named to the All-SEC first team, in her 26 appearances for the school she scored 13 goals. After her sophomore season she announced her decision to turn professional.

A Venezuelan international, she made her debut for the team in December of 2021, scoring the game winning goal while also adding an assist in her first appearance in a 2-1 win over India. Olivieri had played for the United States at the U16 and U14 levels before playing for Venezuela at the U17 level for Youth World Cup Qualifying and at the U20 CONMEBOL South American U20 Championships in Argentina.
