Maud Marks Library book sale is June 29th

The Friends of Maud Marks Library (FOMML) will be holding the fourth used book sale of the year 2024 at the library, 1815 Westgreen Boulevard, Katy, on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Presale viewing and sales (cash or check only) will be available to members of FOMML on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Annual memberships can be purchased at the door for $10. All funds earned from the sale are used to support library programs, such as the Summer Reading Program which is currently being offered to the community. Books (adult or children’s, fiction, nonfiction, reference, foreign language, etc.) that you would like to donate to the sale are now being accepted. Please deposit them, during library hours, in the bins inside the entrance.

Learn Bridge 101 at Fussell Senior Center on second and fourth Thursdays and poker on Fridays

You too can learn to play bridge! Concepts taught at the Fussell Senior Center’s “Bridge 101” class include rules, bidding and strategy. Come for lessons at 9:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month to the center at 5370 E. Fifth Street in Katy. The center also hosts a fun, stress-free, no money needed dealer’s choice poker game at 12:30 p.m. each Friday.

Katy Elks Lodge presents ‘The Man of Many Voices’ for June 21 dinner and show

Katy Elks Lodge #2628 will host a three-hour community event on Friday, June 21, at 1050 Katy Fort Bend Road in Katy. Enjoy dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a performance by Colin Dexter – “The Man of Many Voices” – at 7:30 p.m. You’ll be convinced that you are in the presence of Roy Orbison, Hank Williams, Elvia and George Jones – and more! Tickets may be purchased online for $20.00 plus $2.00 online fee at katyelks.org/tickets. Seating is limited. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Meet with the Katy Senior Caregiver Support Group on Tuesday, June 25 at the Fussell Senior Center

Senior citizens invited to ‘Senior Night Out’ on June 26 at El Asador

The Fussell Senior Center invites area seniors to join the monthly “Senior Night Out” at 5:30 p.m. on June 26 for a meal at El Asador, 3750 S. Mason Road in Katy. No advance signup or membership is required. For questions call 281-391-4837.

The second annual community “Shred Fest” will take place at 22762 Westheimer Parkway Suite 420, Katy, from 9 a.m. to noon on June 29th. The free event is hosted by The Ballard House and Keller Williams Premier Realty. Save time, your money and the environment by disposing of your paper

properly. Bring your financial documents, personal identification, medical records, legal documents, utility bills, employment documents, receipts and invoices, expired credit cards, junk mail and anything with a signature to be destroyed on site. No metal, paper clips or staples or plastic bags or anything else that will jam the shredder. Bring your donations for The Ballard House, which offers short term housing to those traveling to the Houston area for medical care – items needed include travel-sized toiletries, cleaning supplies, coffee, cases of water, and pantry items.

Start your Independence Day festivities with auctions and lunch at the VFW Post at 10 a.m. on July 4

Join the Katy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Number 9182 for its annual Fourth of July celebration, featuring a live and silent auction in addition to a tasty lunch of burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, chips, cookies, cake, soda and water. A preview of the live auction items begins at 10 a.m., followed by the silent auction, and the program is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. with remarks from the outgoing and incoming post commanders. VFW Auxiliary essay winner Madelein Scheele will also speak. Lunch, priced at $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for children aged 7 to 12 (children 6 and under are free) begins at 11:45 a.m. All activities take place at 6206 George Bush Drive in Katy.

Celebrate ‘Liberty on the Brazos” on July 4 starting at 6 p.m. at Abe & Lizzie Daily Park in Simonton

The Fulshear Regional Chamber For Commerce, along with Houston Methodist West Hospital and Christ Clinic, will stage a free public event on Independence Day at Daily Park, 4026 Nails Road in Simonton, from 6 to 10 p.m. The festivities include live music from The Highwaymen, food trucks and children’s area and vendor booths.
