Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, in partnership with Precinct4Forward, announced the “Cool 4 the Summer” initiative to protect the precinct’s most vulnerable neighbors from extreme heat on May 29. The program was introduced at a press conference at Freed Community Center, 6818 Shadyvilla Lane in Houston’s Spring Branch area.
The “Cool 4 the Summer” initiative giveaway includes 150 portable air conditioning units for seniors, low-income households, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
Applications for the program opened May 29 at noon. The deadline to apply is June 13, 2025. To sign up, visit the Cool 4 the Summer website at https://cp4.harriscountytx.gov/Cool4TheSummer or any Precinct 4 Community Center. Community centers closest to the Katy area include the Radack Center at 18650 Clay Road in Houston and the Weekly Center at 8440 Greenhouse Road in Cypress. Other nearby centers are located in Hockley and near Highway 6.
