Memorial services for Betty Spies will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.

Betty Jean Spies of Jewett, formerly of Katy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 17, 2021 in Centerville, TX at the age of 86.

Mrs. Spies was born on November 3, 1934 in Beaumont, TX to Lewie A. Fagg and Myrtle Perry Fagg. Betty was a woman of great faith and was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Porter. She played the piano in various churches over the Houston area for more than 50 years after having taught herself how to play. Betty was a bookkeeper for her husband Russ at Russ’ Katy Auto Parts. She was also an Owner/Director at Scribbles Day Care for many years, impacting the lives of many, many children in her care; she was their beloved Ms. Betty. She and her family lived in Katy for nearly 49 years before moving to Jewett in June 2021.

She is survived by three children, David Vaughn & wife Roxeanna of Jewett (formerly Connersville, IN), Stewart Vaughn & wife Melanie of Katy, and Ramona Spies Cornett of Jewett (formerly Katy, TX); seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter Fagg & wife Dolores of Vernon; special niece, Marian (Cookie) Spies Martin and her family; many adopted grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She loved many, was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Mrs. Spies was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, H.R. (Russ) Spies; one son, Alton S. (Bo) Vaughn; daughter-in-law, Kay Vaughn (wife of David); son-in-law, Ronnie Cornett; her parents, Lewie & Myrtle Fagg; three sisters, Eva Lou Davis, Joyce Tait, Danette Sibley; one brother, Lewie Fagg, Jr.; her parents-in-law, Adolph & Julie Spies; several nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
