Austin County Fair Queen’s Pageant returns to Thursday night

The Austin County Fair Queen Pageant is returning to Thursday evening of the fair and will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10.
“So many people look forward to coming to the queen’s contest on Thursday night, I just felt it was really important to bring it back to Thursdays,” said Queen Chairman Angela Hoppe.
Applications for the Austin County Fair Queen Pageant are now being accepted. A candidate must be at least 15 years of age by the beginning of the current school year, be single, be a resident of Austin County or enrolled as a student in a school in an Austin County school district or be homeschooled in Austin County. She must be of good conduct, not on probation with the state of Texas or not on scholastic probation. In addition, the Austin County Fair Queen will be an official representative of the Austin County Fair.
Any business place, organization or individual may sponsor a candidate for the queen’s contest. The sponsorship fee for its candidate will be $125.
An orientation meeting for queen candidates will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 6 p.m. at the Austin County Fair office. Queen candidates may begin selling tickets after the meeting. Queen contestants will not be allowed to sell tickets before July 17. Candidates are required to sell at least $2,500 worth of advance season gate tickets or Passports to Fun.
For 2019, the season ticket prices will be $35 in advance and $40 at the gate. The Passports to Fun will be $125. The season passes get the holder into all of the fair events including the queen contest, the little pageants, the livestock shows, three nights of PRCA rodeos and four nights of the best in country music concerts. The Passports to Fun include the season passes for the children plus unlimited rides at the renowned Talley Carnival starting Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 13.
The Austin County Fair Queen and Ticket Queen will receive a scholarship of $2,000 each upon entering college or a trade school. Fair Queen Runner-Up and Ticket Queen Runner-Up will each receive a $1,500 scholarship. In addition, all girls who sell over $2,500 of advance tickets will receive a $50 gift.
