Cinco Ranch’s Charlie Atkinson was named the District 19-6A MVP after a huge senior season where he helped the Cougars reach the Class 6A Regional Semifinals and also helped Cinco Ranch to their first district championship since 2006.
Atkinson was a huge part of the Cougars success, batting in the middle of the order and playing strong outfield defense. Atkinson was named to the district’s first team last season before jumping up to MVP this season. Atkinson hit .272 this season, driving in 28 runs with six home runs, two triples and three doubles on the year, totaling 22 hits and scoring 12 runs.
Joining Atkinson in the superlatives list was Taylor’s Bryce Krenek. Krenek, a freshman, was very strong over the course of the season and was a difference maker for Taylor, helping the Mustangs to a 21-12-1 record and 9-7 record in district as they finished tied for fourth and only fell out of the playoffs in a play in game with Seven Lakes. Krenek started six games on the mound in district, posting a 1.96 ERA and striking out 24 batters over the course of district play.
Tompkins led the way in first team members, including Landon West, Drew Markle, Ty Dagley, Gavin Brewer and Kaden Bertrand. Cinco Ranch was shortly behind with four players on the first team in Gavin Rutherford, Brock DeYoung, Lucas Franco and Logan Sosolik.
