Mayde Creek senior guard Esther Sankoh committed to play for Penn State Greater Allegheny on March 25. PSUGA is a member of the United State Collegiate Athletic Association. Sankoh averaged six points and five rebounds for the Rams things season to go with 28 steals and 25 deflections in 15 games. “Penn State GA is getting a key role player that will do the little things that will help push the program to success,” Rams coach Christy Westbrooks said. “I am very excited and proud she gets to take her talents to the next level. She is very deserving. The kid works hard.” …

The UIL announced March 26 modifications to postseason plans in wrestling and track and field. In wrestling, the number of qualifiers advancing from the district tournament to the regional tournament increases from two to three. The number of qualifiers advancing from the regional tournament to the state tournament increases from two to three. In track and field, the number of qualifiers advancing from the area meet to the regional meet increases from two to four. The number of postseason qualifiers in each sport was initially reduced due to COVID-19 risk guidelines. …

The Seven Lakes girls swimming team posted a 3.953 grade-point team average (out of 4.0) for the 2020-2021 season. The Spartans boys swimming team posted a 3.966 team GPA. Both teams qualified for the NISCA Gold Level Scholar Team award, which recognizes academic success in the classroom. The Seven Lakes girls varsity swimming team includes Isabela Alcazar, Alva Bjelland, Nicole Carpenter, Jessica Coakley, Gracelyn Cox, Taylor Craft, Tori Hassmann, Lauren Hayes, Shalimar Hoxha, Mikayla Kaplan, Kaitlyn Killinger, Kailey Koval, Sarah Lu, Megan Mahon, Emily Peden, Josie Pulkinnen, Valerie See, Caroline Shade, Gabi Wahjosoedbjo, Maddie Welborn and Lauren Yao. The Seven Lakes boys varsity team includes Logan Arnold, Sam Bush, Celian Cadet, Matthew Crabtree, Nick Hand, Gabe Jesurum, Andrew Li, Justin Liao, Jason Li, Jerry Lu, Colby Mann, Paul Popoviciu, Andres Saa, Trey Silva, Alex Sung and Daniel Zanabria. …

Incarnate Word senior designated hitter Lee Thomas, a former Cinco Ranch standout, entered the Cardinals’ top-10 program record books during last weekend’s series against Central Arkansas. Thomas now stands ninth in career games (132) and RBIs (111), eighth in doubles (31) and walks (63), and seventh in home runs (18). … Former Cinco Ranch star and Texas A&M guard Jay Jay Chandler has transferred to South Alabama. Chandler entered the NCAA’s transfer portal on March 18 after averaging 6.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.0 assist and shot 37 percent in 19 minutes per game for the Aggies, playing in 110 games with 34 starts over four seasons. Due to the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility, Chandler has one more season left. …

Tompkins junior outfielder and LSU commit Jace LaViolette has already set the Falcons’ all-time single-season leader marks in RBIs and home runs. LaViolette had 38 RBIs and four home runs through the team’s first 22 games. …

In this week’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 6A state poll, Tompkins is ranked No. 2 and Katy is ranked No. 6. …

Katy softball is ranked No. 23 in this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A state poll.
