Applications are now being accepted for the L. D. Robinson scholarship now through March 20. The program is open to any graduating seniors that have successfully completed three or more years in the Katy ISD FFA and agriculture science program. Applications are online only; go to http://ldrskaty.org/ for instructions on how to apply.
Once the application has been completed and advanced, the applicant will receive a call from a committee member to schedule a 15-minute interview with the board.
The scholarship can be one of the following:
· A four-year collegiate scholarship awarded in the amount of $500 per semester for eight semesters for a total of $4,000
· A trade school for various amounts to be determined by the Scholarship Board of Directors
Scholarship recipients will be recognized at their FFA End-of-Year banquet and are presented with a custom embroidered jacket with the official L.D. Robinson Scholarship logo, their name, the name of their high school, and year of graduation.
The L. D. Robinson Scholarship Fund was established in 1970 to honor L.D. Robinson, who founded the Katy I.S.D. FFA Livestock Show, Rodeo, and Agriculture Science Farm in 1943. Robinson served as FFA advisor and agriculture science teacher at Katy High School for 29 years before retiring in 1970. The scholarship program was set up by former students, the Katy ISD Administration, Texas Education Agency, and the Katy community in appreciation of Robinson's 44-year commitment and service to Texas education, including the organization of youth and civic programs, and contributions to the FFA and agriculture science programs at the district, state and national levels. This type of program and concept was the first of its kind on a local school level in the nation, according to the scholarship program’s website.
