A team of student leaders from Seven Lakes High School is bringing home top honors after earning first place in Parliamentary Procedure at the Texas Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference, demonstrating elite communication, leadership and organizational skills on a statewide stage. The district made the announcement on April 16.
The championship team – Shrey Ghosh, Ivanna Santiago, Anisha Polepally, Saisha Srivastava, Arya Patel, Saanvi Talapalikothuri, Lamha Arora and Shriya Desikan – outperformed top competitors from across Texas in one of HOSA’s most rigorous and dynamic events.
The Parliamentary Procedure competition challenges students to lead structured, efficient meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order, a skill set critical in both professional leadership settings and the healthcare industry. Teams must first complete a comprehensive written exam covering motions, voting procedures and rules of debate before advancing to a live performance. Finalists conduct a timed, simulated meeting where they demonstrate leadership roles including chair, secretary and committee members.
“Katy ISD continues to prepare students for real-world success by developing leadership, communication and critical thinking skills through programs like HOSA,” Katy ISD Director of CTE Nicholas Gonzales said. “This team’s state championship reflects their commitment to excellence and their ability to lead with confidence in high-pressure environments.”
The event mirrors the structured protocols found in healthcare professions, where precision, organization and teamwork are essential. Just as medical teams follow established procedures to ensure patient safety, students in Parliamentary Procedure must execute meetings with accuracy, clarity and professionalism.
Seven Lakes’ championship success highlights the strength of Katy ISD’s Career and Technical Education programs, which provide students with opportunities to build leadership skills and prepare for future careers in healthcare and beyond, a district spokesperson said.
