Active Coffee Shop, which held its pre-opening ceremonies at 5416 E. Fourth Street in Katy, is a real treat – not only with delicious coffee but also with outstanding pastries.
Nestled in a residential neighborhood off Airline and E. Fifth Street, the shop is owned by Christian Reyes, in collaboration with the Active Cycling Shop which is located nearby. The shop features a shaded patio behind the beautifully-decorated main building.
The opening ceremonies for the coffee shop began early on the cold morning of December 21, with a bicycle ride attended by over 150 cyclists. The special event featured Neilson Powless, a renowned international cyclist and Olympian who led the riders. Powless was also joined by Mardoqueo Vasquez, a two-time cycling champion from Guatemala, as well as other exceptional athletes.
“We believe that this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the spirit of community and athleticism,” Reyes told the Katy Times.
The focus on athleticism is nothing new for Reyes, who is the father of Nico Reyes, a Guinness Book of World Records achiever for being the youngest child with Down syndrome to complete a triathlon, during the Katy Triathlon hosted by the Rotary Club of Katy.
Nico was present at the grand opening ceremonies for Active Coffee but did not participate in the ride due to weather conditions, his father said.
