15 Katy ISD stars named to 6A all-state football team

Fifteen Katy ISD football players were named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 6A all-state team on Friday. Three were named to the first team.

15 Katy ISD stars named to 6A all-state football team

Fifteen Katy ISD football players were named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 6A all-state team on Friday. Three were named to the first team.

Taylor senior center Bryce Foster was named to the first-team offense, while Tompkins senior safety Colby Huerter and Seven Lakes junior punter Scott Stanford were named to the first-team defense.

Foster, a Texas A&M signee, compiled 117 pancakes last season for the regional semifinalist Mustangs and allowed no sacks over 208 passes. He also blocked a field goal. Huerter, a South Dakota State signee, totaled 79 tackles, three fumble recoveries (all for touchdowns), five interceptions and one caused fumble for the regional semifinalist Falcons. Stanford averaged 45 yards on 43 punts and had three punts inside the 20-yard line.

Seven Katy ISD players were named to the second team.

On offense, Taylor senior tackle Hayden Conner (60 pancakes, 0 sacks in 208 passes), Katy High senior center Vasileios “Bill” Katsigiannis (90 pancakes, 0 sacks allowed), Katy High senior running back Jalen Davis (1,518 rushing yards, 25 TDs), Katy High sophomore running back Seth Davis (1,749 rushing yards, 18 TDs), and Tompkins senior fullback Sherman Smith (644 rushing yards, 10 TDs; 150 receiving yards, two TDs) were recognized.

On defense, Katy High senior lineman and Class 6A-Division II state championship game defensive MVP Cal Varner III (51 total tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, 27 quarterback pressures, two fumbles caused, three fumbles recovered, one interception) and Taylor senior safety Trevor Woods (100 total tackles, two tackles for a loss, five caused fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three pass breakups, two interceptions) were acknowledged.

Katy ISD put two players on the third team in Katy High senior linebacker Shepherd Bowling (58 total tackles, four sacks, 14 tackles for a loss, one caused fumble, two interceptions) and Katy High senior cornerback Hunter Washington (29 total tackles, two interceptions, 14 pass breakups).

Honorable mention selections were Tompkins senior quarterback Jalen Milroe (1,381 yards passing, 14 TDs; 307 yards rushing, five TDs), Taylor senior defensive lineman Treviance Bronson (75 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, four sacks, 26 quarterback pressures, two fumble recoveries), and Taylor senior linebacker Aano Filoialii (92 total tackles, three sacks, five tackles for a loss, one fumble recovery).

Austin Westlake junior quarterback Cade Klubnik and Denton Guyer senior defensive lineman Cooper Lanz are the players of the year on the TSWA 6A all-state football team.

Klubnik passed for 3,495 yards and 35 touchdowns with only three interceptions in leading Westlake to the Division I state title. He also rushed for 583 yards and 15 touchdowns. Lanz, who signed with Baylor, had 129 tackles, 30 of them for losses, including 14 sacks along with 24 quarterback pressures.

Austin Westlake’s Todd Dodge was the coach of the year, leading the Chaparrals to a 14-0 record.
