Two separate events along Interstate 10 in Katy – one at the Grand Parkway and one near Westgreen Blvd. – resulted in two deaths.

In the first incident, which reported took place on Friday morning, a woman parked her Mercedes on the flyover bridge connecting the Grand Parkway to Interstate 10, and then jumped off the structure. She was taken by LifeFlight in critical condition to but did not survive, according to a Facebook post from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The woman has not been identified.

In the second, Harris County deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 23600 block of the Katy Freeway, according to a Facebook post from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. A young man who sustained a gunshot wound was transported to a medical facility by LifeFlight but was pronounced dead on arrival. Three lanes of the westbound feeder road were temporarily closed.

Although officials did not identify the victim in the second incidence, the family of Cody Johnson, represented by father Mike Johnson, posted the following statement on Facebook: ”WE NEED YOUR HELP! It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am having to make this post. Our family is going through a tragedy that I pray none of you will have to endure. On Friday evening, September 27, 2024, my son, Cody, was murdered on I-10… apparently shot in a road rage incident. We are seeking any and all information that anyone may have. It happened between 7:35 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. on I-10 westbound between Beltway 8 and 99. If you have ANY information, please contact Harris County Sheriff’s Office to help bring the person or persons responsible to justice. Please share this with everyone you know to help us find some form of justice for my son. Thank you for helping our family in this tragic time.”
