Ruth Arlene Paben was born October 21, 1935, in Sealy, Texas.  The daughter of Reese Coleman Kveton and Elfrieda Luedecke Kveton, she grew up in Sealy and attended Sealy and Royal schools.

She married Luther “Fred” Paben on July 18, 1953, and then went on to graduate from Pattison High School in 1955.  She moved to Katy and worked in various jobs until the birth of her first child in 1962.  She then became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker until her youngest child started school in 1973.  At that time, she started a new career in food service at the Katy Independent School District.  She worked her way up in KISD to become a high school cafeteria manager.  She worked in KISD until her retirement when she returned with Fred to Sealy, Texas to care for her mother and become a permanent resident in Sealy.

She was always looking for ways to serve.  She selflessly stayed home to care for her husband and children, worked in food service and served as a member and officer in the Ladies Aide at her churches, Memorial Lutheran in Katy and Trinity Lutheran in Sealy.  She valued her friends in the church and enjoyed the at-home fellowship with her Bible Study friends.  She volunteered and served in the Katy Fire Department Ladies Auxilary.   She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother (granny), and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. 

She passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022, after a lengthy illness in a care home in Pearland, Texas at the age of 86.  She is survived by her CHILDREN:  Dawn Holmes and husband Doug, Darla Bonar and husband Jared, and Doug Paben and wife Angie; GRANDCHILDREN:  Sheri Towne and husband Chris, Aaron Ramsey, Robyn McKeever, John Coleby McKeever, Joshua McKeever, Drew Paben, Owen Paben, and Reagan Paben; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN:  Zoey Ramos Ramsey, Nikko Towne, and Kaylee Smalley; and many other dear friends and relatives.  Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Paben; her parents and brother: James Kveton.

A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 5 p.m.  – 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy. On Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. a funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church followed by an immediate interment at Sealy Cemetery.
