Texas Tech sophomore and Katy high school graduate Kailey Wyckoff brought home a number of honors last week, as the Big 12 announced its preseason team and D1Softball.compublished it’s top 100-collegiate softball player list.
Wyckoff, who comes off a season where she was named the Big 12 freshman of the year and was one of the top catchers throughout the nation.
She was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team and was one of just four sophomores on the team and one of only two catchers on the team. Along with that honor, she was also named to the D1Softball.com top 100 player, coming in at No. 88 in the nation, the ninth highest ranked catcher in college softball.
“I’ve worked really hard over the summer and the offseason to continue to build on the skills that led to my success last year,” Wyckoff said. “I’m constantly growing and learning and pushing myself to improve. I’ve worked on expanding my arsenal of tools at the plate and have been in the gym a lot working on getting stronger.”
Wyckoff led Texas Tech in batting average (.393), total bases (111) and slugging percentage (.740) last year and also tied the tam high in doubles (15), which all ranked in the top 10 in a single season history for a Red Raider.
“It means a lot to me. It shows my efforts are valued and that I’m making a positive impact on the team,” Wyckoff said. “It’s motivation to keep working hard so I can continue to contribute to the success of the team.”
