Four Katy Tigers were named to this year’s Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 6A All-State Team. With two being named first team all-state after a tremendous year for the Tigers.
Cameryn Harrison and Ashtyn Reichardt were named first team all-state, while Montgomery Henderson was named to the third team and Ella-Kate Smith was named an honorable mention on the team.
The four of them led Katy to its best season since 2019, as the Tigers went 39-3-1 this season, going undefeated with a 16-0 record in district play and making a huge run in the playoffs to make it to the Region III-6A Final.
Harrison had a 22-1 record on the mound with a .53 ERA on the year, striking out 232 batters in 119.1 innings while also batting .500 with 47 RBIs, hitting 10 home runs and scoring 28 runs herself.
Reichardt was the leadoff hitter and the leadoff hitter and defensive anchor of the team and was also one of the biggest leaders on the team, helping the younger players both vocally and by leading the way with her actions. Both Reichardt and Harrison will join the Arkansas Razorbacks in the fall.
Montgomery Henderson stepped up hugely in her junior year. She took over cleanup hitter duties and was one of the best hitters in the Tigers lineup, hitting for both average and power while providing exceptional defense at first base. She is committed to play at Oklahoma State after her senior year.
Ella-Kate Smith also took a huge step in her sophomore season. She became one of the most potent hitters in the Tigers lineup, coming up clutch in a number of games and she also took a big step forward as a pitcher, stepping up in the playoffs in a number of different deciding games with strong performances on the mound that helped Katy go five rounds deep.
Weslaco’s Madelynn Cantu was named the Class 6A Player of the Year after leading Weslaco to a state title. Voting was conducted by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and media members around the state.
