Playoff matchups set for Katy ISD

Posted

The playoff field out of District 19-6A is set after Friday’s last set of regular season games.

There will be a number of great games in the bi-district round featuring Katy ISD teams with strong teams coming from districts 19 and 20.

Katy (9-1) finished the year as the district champions and will have the first seed of the Division I bracket, for the teams efforts they will get Fort Bend Travis in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers finished the regular season 7-3 and 5-3 in district play and took the second seed in Division I, finishing fourth in district. They come into the playoffs on a one game win streak after ending the regular season with a win over Fort Bend Bush.

Tompkins (7-3) finished as runners up in district and took the second seed out of Division I. The Falcons ended district on a tear to earn that matchup, winning their final six games of the season to earn a matchup with Ridge Point (8-2). The Panthers went undefeated in district play and won District 20-6A to earn the first seed out of Division I. They come into the matchup having won eight straight games and have outscored their opponents mightily, scoring 50.1 points per game compared to giving up 16.7 points per game.

On the Division II bracket side, Taylor (5-5) took the No. 1 seed out of district after finishing third overall. The Mustangs earned some big wins down the stretch, including over Jordan to earn the first seed out of Division II. The Mustangs have lost two straight heading into the playoffs and will be looking to turn that around in a rematch from earlier this season against George Ranch (7-2). The Longhorns finish the regular season Saturday night but are locked into their playoff position heading into next week. George Ranch and Taylor faced off earlier this year, with the Longhorns taking a 41-15 win in the matchup. Taylor suffered injuries in the game and took a huge step forward after that and the Mustangs will be looking for revenge in the matchup.

Jordan (7-3) got the second seed out of Division II and the fourth seed out of the district, clinching the schools first playoff appearance in the process. The Warriors will have a bi-district matchup against Hightower for their first ever playoff game, a team that comes off a very good regular season. The Hurricanes finished the year 9-1 and 7-1 in district to finish second in District 20-6A. Hightower finished the regular season on a seven game win streak to earn the first seed out of Division II.
