Katy stayed tied for the lead in district with a big win over Taylor on Tuesday, while Tompkins locked up a playoff spot despite a loss to Paetow, while Jordan shut out Morton Ranch for a win.

Brashear shuts down Taylor

Aaron Brashear earned one of the biggest wins of the season for Katy on Tuesday, throwing a shutout gem in a 6-0 win over Taylor to keep Katy in a tie for the lead in District 19-6A play and one game up over the Mustangs. Brashear pitched five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six and walking two in the win as Katy improved to 19-10 on the season and 12-3 in district play.

The Tigers took the lead in the third inning when they got two runs on two Taylor errors and they added another in the third inning when Taylor committed another error. Ashten Ballew made it 4-0 in the sixth inning when he drove in a run on a single before another Taylor error brought home Katy’s fifth later in the inning. Cade Nelson capped things off with a fielders choice RBI in the top of the seventh. Arvey Huerta pitched a strong final two innings for Katy to secure the win, striking out three and walking one without allowing a hit.

Bryce started on the mound for Taylor and went 5.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking two. The Mustangs fell to 21-11-1 overall and 11-4 in district play. Taylor could fall to fourth in district with a loss on Friday but still has everything to play for as they are just a game behind Katy and Cinco Ranch for first place in district.

Paetow outlasts Tompkins

Paetow was eliminated from playoff contention but still picked up a strong win on Tuesday, beating Tompkins 7-5 behind a strong performance at the plate from the team. Hector Millan and Caden Clark both had two RBIs to help secure the win. Camden Phillips took the mound for Paetow and went 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking four.

Paetow jumped ahead in the first inning, when Millan hit an RBI single, but Tompkins came back to tie it in the bottom of the inning when Cash Wilson hit a sacrifice grounder. The Falcons went ahead in the second when Aidan Corey hit a single and got a third on a Nic Piazza RBI double and it stayed that way until the fifth inning, when Paetow strung together runs. Victor Salazar trimmed Tompkins lead to one on an RBI single and an error tied the game. Clark hit a sacrifice grounder that gave Paetow the lead and an error increased Paetow’s lead to two at the end of the fifth. Tompkins trimmed the lead to one in the bottom of the inning when Bradan Foor hit a sacrifice fly, but Paetow again answered back in the top of the seventh when Clark hit an RBI single and Emmanuel Montalvo added another RBI single to put Paetow up three. Corey got one run back for Tompkins in the bottom of the inning on a single, but that was all the Falcons could muster before the end of the game.

Hudson Melaerts pitched 4.1 innings for Tompkins and allowed three earned runs on two hits while striking out seven and walking four, Corey led the team with two RBIs. Tompkins fell to 18-12 overall and 10-5 in district with the loss. The Falcons clinched a playoff berth despite the loss and are still alive for the three seed in district with one game left.

Jordan shuts out Morton Ranch

Jordan may be out of the playoff race, but they put together a strong game on Tuesday and earned a 2-0 win over Morton Ranch behind a strong pitching performance from Owen Wendt and Carter Smoller, who combined for a shutout and allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking three in the seven innings as Jordan improved to 5-10 in district and 12-16 overall.

Luis Vera got Jordan on the board in the third inning when he hit a one-run single and Jackie Bryant drove in a second run on a single. That was all the Warriors needed to clinch the win as they didn’t allow anything the rest of the way.

Leo Banuelos pitched for Morton Ranch and allowed five hits over four innings, giving up two runs while striking out one and walking two. Morton Ranch fell to 8-20-1 overall and 2-13 in district.
