Vaamika Saxena, a student at Robertson Elementary in Katy ISD, has won first place in the state of Texas VFW Auxiliary Illustrating America Contest, according to an August announcement by local VFW Post 9182. Illustrating America is one of the post’s contests held yearly for K-8; artwork is submitted for consideration in the contest by March 31st. Then judging is conducted at the local post, followed by additional judging at the district, state and national levels.

Aside from this art contest for grades K-8, the post has two essay contests, deadlining October 31 for grades 6-8 and high school, and two art contests for high school students, in addition to an auxiliary 9182 scholarship for a Katy ISD senior.
