Katy native returns to perform at Rice Harvest Festival

Posted

Last year the Rice Harvest festival flew in a local Katy girl and her band to come home to perform. They have been invited back again this year and they will be performing again at this weekend’s festival. Mackenzie Bryce (Christian) is Katy born and bred — attending Katy Elementary and Katy Junior High and graduating from Katy High School with honors, finishing in the top 10 per cent of her class and with a 3.0 GPA. She had only one plan after graduation and that was to try out for the music program at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. The school holds three auditions a year -- each audition has 1,200 to 1,500 very gifted music students trying out and only 15-17% are admitted. But Mackenzie was successful and graduated in the top of her class with honors at Belmont, with a major in Creative Entertainment and a minor in Music. It was in her sophomore year she met Ross Martin and they started writing together and formed the duo/band MackMartin. After graduation she stayed in Nashville to continue writing and performing and has made it her home. Mackenzie and Ross became lifetime members of the iconic Blue Bird Cafe, a listening room for writers. They also won a Blue Bird Golden Pick award for their song “Time to Face the Music.” They have written several songs being recorded by other artists and have been in the studio completing a project that will release early next year. Their music can be found on Spotify, ITunes, Apple Music and You Tube. MackMartin will take the stage at noon on Saturday at the Rice Harvest Festival.
