Counter steps down as Morton Ranch head coach

Counter led Morton Ranch to a 2-8 season this year with a 2-6 record in District 19-6A play. Morton Ranch broke a six-year playoff drought in 2022 when the Mavericks finished 7-4 and 5-3 in district play.

Counter steps down as Morton Ranch head coach

Ron Counter has been reassigned within Katy ISD from his post as Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator, sources have confirmed to the Katy Times.

Counter led Morton Ranch to a 2-8 season this year with a 2-6 record in District 19-6A play. Morton Ranch broke a six-year playoff drought in 2022 when the Mavericks finished 7-4 and 5-3 in district play.

Overall, Counter had a record of 29-40 over seven seasons at Morton Ranch, leading the Mavericks to the playoffs once in 2022 where they lost to Hightower in the bi-district round. Before coming to Morton Ranch and Katy ISD Counter amassed a 38-12 record at Stafford over four seasons. Before becoming head coach as Stafford, Counter coached at Strake Jesuit, Round Rock Westwood, Spring Woods, Alief Hastings and Klein Oak. Overall, Counter has a record of 114-87 as a head coach.

Overall Morton Ranch has made the playoffs five times, in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2022. Counter took over as head coach of the Mavericks in January of 2017 from Dave Meadows, who coached the Mavericks from 2009-2016.
