Celebrate Flag Day with the American Legion at the Elks Lodge on June 14

On Friday June 14th, the Katy Elks lodge 2628, along with American Legion Post 164 of Katy, will be celebrating Flag Day. The ceremony – celebrating the story of the early years of our flag and how it became the symbol it is today -- will be held at the Katy Elks lodge located at 1050 Fort Bend Rd. in Katy. Come and learn how the country's flag grew and changed as our country itself grew and changed, and how our flag has come to be the symbol of freedom and democracy. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 7 p.m.

Sign up for Bunko at the Fussell Senior Center on June 18

Learn how to play the easy, fun and social game of bunko during lessons at the Fussell Senior Center at 11 a.m. on June 18. Sign up at the center located at 5370 E. Fifth Street in Katy.

Appreciate freedom at the Juneteenth Parade & Festival on June 19

The fun starts at 10 a.m. on June 19th with a parade beginning at Katy’s First Baptist Church at 600 Pin Oak. A festival follows from noon to 3 p.m. at the City of Katy’s Woodsland Park at 443 Danover Street in Katy, featuring food, art, music and a kids zone. Brookshire celebrates Juneteenth with parade and festivities on June 22

The Juneteenth Celebration Trail Ride Parade will take place on June 22 at 2 p.m. at the Jackson Café, 40350 Mt. Zion Road in Brookshire-Pattison. The free event features a “Battle of the DJs” with DJ Herman and DJ Grip along with other live music and entertainment. For the adults – compete in domino and card tournaments or enjoy volley ball, sotball, horseshoes, pool or bean bag toss. For the kids – there’s a bounce house, cotton candy and a sno-cone machine. Afterwards, “Go Western Style” at 4 p.m. at the Brookshire Convention Center, 4029 5th St., Brookshire, with the Apostle Blanch Barley.

Join the staff of Katy Budget Books on June 22 at 4 p.m. for an in-store Q&A with author Kristen Kiesling and receive a book signing with the purchase of her book “The Harrowing.” The store is located at 870 S. Mason Suite 101 in Katy.

Fussell Senior Center offers trips for seniors in June

· Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. -- Father’s Day Trip to Historic Magnolia Depot and Lunch: Dads are invited to experience Magnolia’s rich history on display at the historic Depot Museum at the corner of Melton Street and Buddy Riley Blvd. Lunch out will follow. There is no advance cost for this trip.

· Tuesday, June 22 at 11 a.m. – Movies and Lunch: Join the Fussell team to watch a film on the big screen and enjoy lunch with friends. Movie and restaurant TBD. There is no advance cost for this trip.

· Friday, June 28th at 9 a.m. -- Tour of Halletsville and Lunch: Visit Halletsville, known as the “City of Hospitality” and home to the state fiddling and domino championships. Lunch will follow. Cost TBD.

· Saturday, June 29th at 8:30 a.m. – Blackberry Picking and Lunch: Bring your own bucket and join in the fun to pick homegrown berries. Berries are $4.00 per pound and only cash is accepted. Lunch restaurant TBD.

Harris County ESD 48 to host blood drive on June 30

Come to Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department Station 5 at 21201 Morton Road in Katy on June 30th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to participate in their blood drive with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Receive a free beach towel with your donation.
