YMCA and Chick-fil-A celebrate Labor Day with car show

Passion for automobiles is a centuries-old part of American culture. When Henry Ford created the Model T in 1913, he launched a movement that would become synonymous with the American spirit. Simply put: Americans love cars.

In celebration of the Labor Day holiday, the Chick-fil-A at Katy Mills hosted its Second Annual Car Show along with the YMCA at Main Street on Aug. 31.

Over 100 show cars converged at the Main St. YMCA. Cynthia Cavin, owner and operator of the Chick-fil-A at Katy Mills, invited every make, model, and year vehicle to participate.

The Katy community flocked to the event to see the cars, which featured every type of automobile in the spectrum. Classic cars were parked beside the brand-new models. Muscle cars revved their engines alongside purring luxury vehicles. Two-seater sports cars were eclipsed in the shade of 24,000 pound emergency response vehicles.

Over 800 spectators of every age delighted in the cars. From die-hard automobile enthusiasts to wide-eyed children looking at grown-up versions of their Matchbox cars, everyone was thrilled to see the unique and rare offerings of the car show.

Cavin was pleased with the number of car owners who came out to exhibit their cars. “These car owners are really passionate. Look at these vehicles. They're really neat,” she said, gesturing to the parking lot. “There's some really cool cars, and these people put a lot of time into these cars, and it's really great to see them have their work celebrated.”

This is the second year for the car show, which saw an enormous response even in its first year. Last years’ show drew around 80 cars and approximately 500 guests.

Kara McMullin, Marketing Director for Chick-fil-A Katy Mills said, “We are thrilled to announce that the Second Annual Fast Cars and Freedom Car Show was a huge success. With over 100 cars and 800+ spectators, these two organizations created a remarkable community event in the heart of Katy.”

McMullin added that four grand prize winners from the event won free Chick-fil-A for a year from Cavin.
