Students from around the state to spend spring break serving those still affected by Hurricane Harvey in Katy/Houston

Posted

Approximately 230 students and sponsors from churches around Texas will be volunteering in the Katy/Houston area, doing repairs and recovery work on homes affected by Hurricane Harvey through Dallas-based BOUNCE Student Disaster Recovery. Students from all over Texas, including the DFW Area, Longview, San Antonio, Crawford, Gonzales, Stockdale and Marshall, as well as a group of students from Louisiana, will join together to work on the homes during their spring break.

This is the fifth trip BOUNCE has organized to the area to help those affected by hurricane damage, according to a press release from the organization. “We are delighted that there are so many highly motivated students who are giving a portion of their spring break to serve these people who have great needs,” said the release. “Our partners at Katy Responds and The Restoration Team tell us a number of residents have been waiting for assistance for some time. We are grateful we can assist them in the recovery process."

The work will be done in partnership with Katy Responds and The Restoration Team. The students and sponsors will be housed at Copperfield Church, 8350 Highway 6 N, in Houston, with shower and feeding units being provided by Texas Baptist Men.

Workdays are March 11-12 and students will be at their worksites from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until project completion. The students will be working at private residences in the local area.
