John Howard Fisher was born August 3, 1936, in Sugarland, Texas; he died June 3, 2024, in Katy, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents Lucille Wendling Fisher and Wayne Hubert Fisher and two sisters Patricia Ann Fisher Vaughan Callaghan and Barbara Agnes Fisher Ward Donaldson. John attended Addicks Elementary and Katy High School, where he was a football and track athlete. He graduated in the Class of 1956 and completed studies at Blinn College, Brenham, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Marine Reserves; was an outdoorsman; a rodeo bareback and bull rider, bull-dogger; dairyman, rice and hay farmer; rodeo clown and bullfighter; animal trainer and movie animal trainer; photographer; musician; carpenter; brother, husband, father and friend.

As a life-long resident of Barker and Katy, Texas, John Howard was a member of 4H and FFA. He did his part to save the history of farming and ranching, country-life, and his heritage by extremely hard work, he helped to save for all time, several buildings in the Barker area, as a founding member of the Barker Heritage and Preservation Society.
John Howard’s varied occupations/jobs allowed him much travel and knowledge, which all played a part in his well-rounded personality and ability to make friends. His primary occupation for many years was as a Professional Carpenter.

He loved The Happy Frog, Snappy’s, Bryant’s Ice House and Landry’s Seafood. John spent hours at the old farm on Baker Road, Barker, where he raised and managed a constant flow of Texas Longhorn steers, and some cows and horses. He trained and saddle-broke the steers and presented them at photo-opps. His imagination was a wonder to witness.

John Howard leaves behind sons John H. Fisher, Jr. and Howard W. Fisher; daughters Janet Mikeska and Michelle Stallcup and son Steven Stallcup; sisters LuWayne Fisher Dzierzanowski and husband, James; Charlotte Fisher Reichert and husband Melvin; brother Ralph W. Fisher and wife Sandra Maag Reddell. He is survived by his former employer and life-long friend, “Mr. Bill” Jennings and numerous relatives and friends; he will long be remembered and missed.

He attended St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy.

The Funeral Service will be provided by Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Avenue, Katy, Texas, at 3pm on Friday June 14, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Church On The Rock-Katy; at 433 Barker-Cypress, Houston, Texas 77094, Attention: Pastor Cardenas (713-530-4575). This church now owns and manages three historic buildings: Barker, Texas Train Depot; Barker Church Building and the Fisher-Wendling House.
