August events planned by Precinct 4 for the Steve Radack Community Center, 18650 Clay Road, Houston, include:

  • Free backpack giveaway, Friday, August 4th, noon to 3 p.m. Brains of Brilliance invites families to this free community event.  Children must be present to receive a backpack.  First-come, first served, while supplies last.
  • HCSO Citizens Police Academy, Thursday, August 10-September 7 at 5:30 p.m. Registration required.  Come learn about the many aspects of law enforcement and get a better understanding of how police services are conducted within communities.
  • Christus Children’s Immunizations Tuesday, August 15 at 9 a.m. Children, from 2 months to 18 years old with no health insurance or who are under-insured on Medicaid, Indian/Native American or Alaskan Native are eligible.  Parent or guardians must bring the child’s original shot records.
  • Free Children’s Immunizations, Tuesday, August 22 0 a.m. to 2 p.m. Harris Health is providing immunizations for children, from 2 months to 18 years old with no health insurance or who are under-insured on Medicaid, Indian/Native American or Alaskan Native are eligible.  Parent or guardians must bring the child’s original shot records.
  • COVID-19, Flu and Monkeypox vaccinations, Tuesday, August 22 at 10 a.m. Harris County Public Health is offering free vaccinations and boosters for COVID-19, flu andmonkeypox.  No ID, insurance, or citizenship status is required.  To make an appointment, call 832-927-8787.  Walk-ins welcome.

Serene Beans launches first annual bluegrass jam on August 5th

A traditional acoustic music jam, featuring old time bluegrass and Celtic music, will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Serene Beans, 5609 Second Street in Katy on August 5th.  Free admission.

Katy Christian Chamber of Commerce invites public to August events

The Katy Christian Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking mixer at Breathe Fit on Thursday, August 10th from 5 to 6:30 p.m.   This event is free to chamber members and $20.00 for non-members.  The chamber’s monthly networking breakfast, featuring award-winning singer/songwriter Bill Nash, will be held Friday, August 18th at 7 a.m. at Church on the Rock, 433 Barker Cypress Road, Houston.  The breakfast event is $20.00 for chamber members and $35.00 for non-members.  For more information, call (281) 560-3898 or email info@katychristianchamber.com

Katy Parks Department presents Katy Summer Nights on August 11th

The City of Katy Parks Department will hold “Katy Summer Nights” at Woodsland Park, 443 Danover Road, Katy, on August 11th from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring a petting zoo, Euro jumper, snow cones and more.  The event is free to the public.

Fulshear Katy Area Chamber of Commerce offers annual B.O.B. bowling tournament

Unlike traditional networking events, the B.O.B. bowling tournament is conducted in a relaxed setting, to encourage conversation and connections.  The annual gathering will be held at Main Event, 24401 Katy Freeway, Katy, on August 28 from noon to 4 p.m. Sponsorships are available and individuals may bowl for $75.00. Katy Christian Ministries to hold 19th annual gala on Sept. 14th

Katy Christian Ministries will host its 19th annual gala on September 14th from 6  to 9 p.m. at Safari Texas Ranch, 11627 FM 1464 Rd., Richmond .  The event features dinner and dancing with music from the Earl Sanders Jr. Band, as well as live and silent auctions.  The “Wranglers and Rhinestones” gala has a fund-raising goal of $135,000.00, which will be further the organization’s efforts to provide services in the Katy area, including the food pantry, crisis intervention services and voucher program providing basic necessities for those in need.  For more information and to purchase tickets, go to ktcm.org/gala.
