Fulshear City Council approved updates to the city’s Parks and Pathways Master Plan and its Major Thoroughfare Plan during its July 21 meeting. The updates were made due to the city’s rapid growth and city goals to improve walkability and drivability throughout its boundaries and demands of residents for improvement in those areas according to city documents.

The Parks and Pathways Master Plan identified six priority projects including Primrose Park, Fulshear Heritage Rail Park, renovations to Frances Smart Park, an 11.5-acre park along Bessie’s Creek and the Pathway Master Plan which sets a goal of making Fulshear a more walkable community for pedestrians to traverse safely. These would help to meet the needs expressed by the city’s stakeholders and residents of more pedestrian facilities, event spaces, sports facilities and bicycle pathways according to the plan document.

Some park plans could provide for additional drainage, fishing opportunities and opportunities for organized league sports, according to the parks plan.

An update to the city’s Major Thoroughfare Plan was also approved. The plan had last been set in 2015 and needed adjustment due to the city’s growth, Fulshear’s Director of Planning and Development Zach Goodlander said.

The plan, which is available on the city’s website, was approved as presented with one exception. A collector road which would have extended diagonally across the Ginter tract near the city was set to terminate at the border of the Ginter property line.

Fulshear City Council is set to meet in a special meeting on July 28 for a special meeting regarding the city’s Coordinated Development Ordinance. The council’s next regular meeting is Aug. 4.
