Fort Bend County Judge KP George hosts community meetings to inform residents about $865 million bond

Fort Bend County Judge KP George is hosting a series of community meetings to inform residents about the 2023 Fort Bend County Bonds that will appear on the November 7 ballot. The bond propositions consist of 98 mobility projects for Proposition A for a total of $712.6 million and Proposition B related to parks projects for a total of $153 million, resulting in a total bond amount of $865.6 million.

“These informative sessions are designed to provide the public with a comprehensive understanding of the proposed bonds and encompass a range of vital projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Fort Bend County,” said a press release from the county. “These initiatives include, but are not limited to, infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and parks and recreational facilities.”

The second of these meetings took place Tuesday, September 27th, at Fulshear High School in Fulshear with about 60 people in attendance. Joined by Fort Bend Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales, County Engineer Stacy Slawinski, County Parks and Recreation Director Darren McCarthy and other staff, George outlined the projects covered by the bond in each of the county’s four precincts as well as county-wide projects.

Bond projects planned for Precinct 1 in the northern portion of Fort Bend County and the Katy area include:

· Road repairs and traffic safety improvements

· Upgrades to Skinner Lane, Settegast Ranch Road, Falcon Landing Blvd. and other roads

· Upgrade Fulshear Bend Drive to a 6-lanedivisied concrete roadway

· Sidewalk construction

· Funding for SH 99 Frontage Road projects

· Turf conversion for baseball fields at Freedom Park

· Development of Daily Paark and Jones Creek Ranch Park

· Creative of a Precinct 1 dog park (location to be determined)

County-wide projects include:

· Expand the emergency network infrastructure monitoring system

· Implement Smart Signal Technology initiative

· Conduct pedestrian mobility study

· Construct 4th Street with contributions from Precincts 1 and 4

· Upgrade next gen ITS with Precincts 2, 3 and 4 contributions

· Introduce via microtransit with contributions from Precincts 3 and 4

· Develop a sports complex in central Fort Bend County

· Expand multi-purpose parks and recreational facilities county-wide

Future meeting dates include:

· October 16th from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at University Branch Library, 14010 University Blvd., Meeting Room #1, Sugar Land.

· October 18th from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at Sienna Branch Library, 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd., Missouri City.

Additional meeting dates, times, and locations will be announced in the coming weeks to ensure accessibility for all residents of Fort Bend County.
