Katy updates its city seal

The Katy City Council has updated the city seal to reflect a more accurate representation of the Waller County line with Harris County.

City officials said the move was made in response to public requests. The change was made official at the Aug. 22 council meeting.

The city will be replacing the old seal as it can. The seal can be found on everything from city vehicles to stationery to documentation,

Katy Area Economic Development Council to host networking night

The Katy Area Economic Development Council is teaming with the National Women’s Soccer League Houston Dash as Dash races to its first league championship playoff appearance.

To be recognized as the “Non-Profit of the Match” on Sept. 24, Katy Area EDC is raising awareness of this community-wide networking opportunity with its peer Katy-area business support groups. METRO is serving as a transportation partner to offer ticketholders a convenient roundtrip experience from Katy to PNC Stadium in Downtown Houston.

Fort Bend Junior Service League announces new directors

The Fort Bend Junior Service League announced its 2022-2023 Board of Directors. The incoming board members began their term on June 1 and have a combined 69 years of league service.

“It is with great honor and humility that I step into the role of FBJSL president,” Tanesha Mosley said. “It is a privilege to follow in the footsteps of the many wonderful women that have led this great organization. The members of the board are committed to bridging the gap between our members and our community and are fully dedicated to service. FBJSL will continue to observe our mission of service and provide trained volunteers to our community partners while promoting leadership and philanthropy through our members.”

Fort Bend County Libraries children’s programs

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy, will present a variety of free children’s programs—Family Story Time, Pajama Night Story Time, and After-School Breaks—throughout the month of September.

Family Story Time takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

The schedule of Family Story Time activities is as follows:

  • September 7-8: Things That Go
  • September 14-15: Favorites
  • September 21-22: Fall
  • September 28-29: Dance Party

Pajama Night Story Time is an evening alternative for families unable to attend during the day. It happens on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, beginning at 6 p.m. The themes will be “Things That Go” and “Fall.”

“Kinder Korner: Back-to-School Activities” happens at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Kinder Korner is a time for kindergartners to enjoy stories, movies, crafts and other activities.

“After-School Break: Perler Bead Backpack Clips” happens at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in Meeting Room 2. This activity is for students in grades 1-3.

Katy AARP chapter meeting set for Sept. 13

The Katy chapter of AARP will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Fussell Senior Center, 5370 E 5th St.

The meeting will start with a short meeting and announcements. Afterwards, Officer Robert Hughes from the Katy Police Department will discuss how to respond to various active shooter scenarios, including how to respond in a walker or wheelchair. Visitors are welcome.
