Cinco Ranch, Tompkins fall to consolation bracket at state 7-on-7

Cinco Ranch, Tompkins fall to consolation bracket at state 7-on-7

Cinco Ranch and Tompkins competed in pool play of the Division I State 7-on-7 Tournament on Friday, playing for a chance to advance to the championship bracket in College station against strong competition.

Both Cinco Ranch and Tompkins were unable to advance to Saturday’s Championship Bracket, with both dropping to the consolation bracket after battling on Friday.

Cinco went 1-2 on the day and put up a strong fight in Pool D, only falling to the consolation bracket on point differential. Cinco started the day with a loss to Anna 32-13 and nearly came out on top against Corpus Christi Miller, falling 33-27. Cinco closed out the day with a 25-12 win over Lewisville to improve to 1-2. All of Cinco Ranch, Lewisville and Miller finished with a 1-2 record in Pool D, with Miller advancing to the championship bracket. Anna topped the pool with a 3-0 record.

Tompkins battled in arguably the hardest group in the tournament, but ended the day with an 0-3 record to fall to the consolation bracket. The Falcons dropped their first game to Lake Travis 25-6 before battling but falling to Eastlake 20-14. Tompkins played DeSoto in the teams final game of the day and lost 32-22 to fall to fourth in their pool. DeSoto went undefeated in pool play with a 3-0 record, while Lake Travis went 2-1 to also advance to the championship bracket. Eastlake went 1-2 and fell to the consolation bracket along with Tompkins.

Tompkins will play Lucas Lovejoy in the first round of the consolation bracket on Saturday at 8 a.m. Lovejoy went 2-1 in pool play with wins over Friendswood and Keller Central.

Cinco Ranch will start the consolation bracket against PSJA at 8 a.m. PSJA went 1-2 in pool play, falling to Strake Jesuit and Johnson but beating Midlothian Heritage.
