Morton Ranch sophomore defensive end DJ Hicks Jr, who has had an outstanding offseason and seen his stock rise considerably in recruiting circles, committed on April 10 to play in the 2023 Under Armour All-America Game. He is the first Morton Ranch football player to earn the accomplishment. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Hicks was recently recognized as a five-star prospect by 247Sports.com. Hicks had 76 tackles, seven sacks and five forced fumbles for the Mavs in 2020 and holds 26 scholarship offers. …
Taylor senior guard Jake Arnold and Mayde Creek senior guard Jermon Washington were selected to play in the Houston Area Basketball Coaches Association all-star game next month. The game will be played May 4 at Cy-Falls High School. …
Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital is offering low cost, early heart screenings for Katy ISD middle school and high school student-athletes. The heart screen includes an electrocardiogram and echocardiogram. All qualified Katy ISD middle school and high school athletes are eligible. The screenings are May 26 from 1-4 p.m. and August 9 from 1-4 p.m. They will take place at the Memorial Hermann Katy-West Tower at 23900 Katy Freeway.
