District 19-6A

District 10-5A, Div. I

Paetow (8-1, 6-1) vs. Angleton (7-2, 5-2), 6 p.m., Legacy Stadium

  • Paetow’s undefeated season and search for its first outright district title came to an end last week, as the Panthers fell 33-28 to Manvel in an extremely close matchup. Paetow struggled for the first time all year, allowing 33 points and not being able to dominate on the ground. CJ Dumas went 9-20, throwing for 160 yards but also throwing an interception. And the Panthers defense was unable to stop Manvel, as they allowed Kaeden Smith to throw for 201 yards and De’Monte Seymore to rush for over 100 yards.
Despite the loss, Paetow can clinch a share of the district title with Manvel and Hightower with a win over Angleton this week. The Panthers will look to get back to basics and dominate with the run game along with shut down offenses like they had all season leading up to the Manvel game.

Mayde Creek (4-5, 2-3) vs Tompkins (8-1, 4-1), 7 p.m., Rhodes Stadium

  • Tompkins has already secured its spot in the playoffs, and knows it will be the number one 6A, Division I seed out of District 19-6A no matter what happens in its regular season finale against Mayde Creek. The Falcons had their bye week after beating Seven Lakes 44-0 two weeks ago and come into the last week of the season with new legs.
The team has developed a good balance in the run and pass game, they are still pass first, with Cole Francis having thrown for 1975 yards and 19 touchdowns over the teams nine games so far, but Caleb Blocker, Collin Marshall and Wyatt Young have all showed strong things in the run game, especially Blocker, the sophomore has 625 yards and nine touchdowns on 108 carries so far.
Mayde Creek has struggled this year but has seen good things out of Carldell Beard the past two weeks, the Junior has thrown for over 200 yards in each of the games, but will need to cut down on his turnovers, as he threw three interceptions in the two games. The run game for Mayde Creek has not been strong all season and they will continue to try to figure that out as they take on Tompkins.

Friday, Nov. 5

District 19-6A

Morton Ranch (4-5, 2-3) vs. Katy (9-0, 5-0), 6 p.m., Legacy Stadium

  • Katy has already clinched a share of the district title and has a chance to make it an outright championship against Morton Ranch on Friday. The Tigers also know they will go into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Division II bracket out o the district. Katy comes off a trouncing of Taylor and will look to continue that against Morton Ranch. Seth Davis is already over 1600 yards on the season and will be looking to rack up as many as he can and get to 2000 once the playoffs start. Caleb Koger has 1185 yards and 15 touchdowns this year and Antonio Silva leads the team with 449 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Morton Ranch is out of playoff contention after its loss to Cinco Ranch last week and is just playing for pride at this point. It’s been a great season from Santana Scott who has 1196 yards rushing and 295 yards receiving, both tops on the team. Josh Johnson has a chance to get to 1000 yards passing on the season if he passes for 51 yards against Katy.

Cinco Ranch (6-3, 3-2) vs. Seven Lakes (6-3, 3-2), 7 p.m., Rhodes Stadium

  • Cinco Ranch and Seven Lakes both locked up their playoff positions last week and so this game won’t be of the most importance to either. Cinco Ranch, with its huge win over Morton Ranch, locked up the second seed in the Class 6A, Division II bracket and with Seven Lakes win over Mayde Creek, Seven Lakes will be the second seed in the Divison I bracket. For Cinco Ranch, Gavin Rutherford is almost to 2000 yards passing on the year and has thrown 21 touchdowns to just two interceptions on the season. Seth Salverino has 836 yards receiving and nine touchdowns and has a chance to get to 1000 yards receiving in the playoffs.
Seven Lakes has a run first approach to their offense, Sophomore Barrett Hudson has been great in the run game, and has 729 yards and five touchdowns this year while Michael Amico, Grayson Medford and Marcel Davis also all have over 100 yards rushing. Meford has been steady in the pass game, throwing for 805 yards and six touchdowns so far this year.

  • Jordan notched its second win of the season last week against San Antonio Pieper, putting up 55 points and cliching a shutout. The Warriors will finish up their first varsity season against Davenport, who they narrowly lost to 52-45 earlier this season.
