Tompkins girls, Taylor boys highlight all-district picks

On the strength of an undefeated district championship, Tompkins, which made it two titles in a row this season, dominated the 19-6A all-district girls basketball selections released earlier this month, while Taylor, winning its first district title since 1995, impacted the 19-6A all-district boys selections.

Tompkins girls, Taylor boys highlight all-district picks

On the strength of an undefeated district championship, Tompkins, which made it two titles in a row this season, dominated the 19-6A all-district girls basketball selections released earlier this month, while Taylor, winning its first district title since 1995, impacted the 19-6A all-district boys selections.

On the girls side, Tompkins senior guard Crystal Smith was named Most Valuable Player, sophomore teammate Loghan Johnson was named Defensive MVP, and head coach Tamatha Ray was named Coach of the Year.

Cinco Ranch senior guard Abby Bala earned Offensive MVP and Seven Lakes freshman post Justice Carlton won Newcomer of the Year to round out superlatives on the girls team.

Tompkins ran away with the district title, followed by Seven Lakes in second place, Cinco Ranch in third and Katy in fourth.

For the boys, Taylor senior guard Jake Arnold was named Most Valuable Player, senior teammate Luke St. Julien was named Defensive MVP, and head coach Matthew Brayton was named Coach of the Year.

Mayde Creek senior guard Jermon Washington earned Offensive MVP honors and Seven Lakes freshman guard A.J. Bates earned Newcomer of the Year.

Taylor topped Seven Lakes to win the district title on the final day of the district season. Tompkins finished second, followed by Seven Lakes in third and Mayde Creek in fourth.
