Seven Lakes and Tompkins were ranked in the preseason Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 6A poll, as the season began on Friday.
The Spartans came in at No. 19 in the season’s first poll, while Tompkins sat at No. 22 in the state this preseason.
Desoto topped the poll at No. 1, followed by South Grand Prairie, Clark, Duncanville and Summer Creek to round out the top five. Duncanville though, will fall out of the next rankings, as the Pantherettes face a postseason ban this year after their head coach faced recruiting violations.
Seven Lakes and Tompkins come off a season in which they were both co-district champions in District 19-6A. Seven Lakes brings back district MVP Justice Carlton, while Tompkins brings back district offensive MVP Macy Spencer, with the two teams expected once again to battle it out for the district title.
