“It’s a credit to the growth we have had this year,” said Seven Lakes head coach Kaitlyn Eidson. “They have that mindset and they apply it to everything they do. It’s all the players, they’ve been unbelievable and are the reason we are here.”

Seven Lakes saved one of its best performances of the season for the biggest moment.
The Spartans knew it would take a special game to get them into the regional final and they delievered that on Friday, beating Pearland 3-0 in the Region III-6A semifinals, advancing to the regional final on Saturday.
“It’s a credit to the growth we have had this year,” said Seven Lakes head coach Kaitlyn Eidson. “They have that mindset and they apply it to everything they do. It’s all the players, they’ve been unbelievable and are the reason we are here.”
Seven Lakes came out and pressed for the opening goal from the start of the game. The Spartans pushed and were rewarded in the `13th minute when they put a low cross into the box that was tucked into the net by Maria Castro. Seven Lakes added another in the 21st minute, when Castro played a give and go and made space in the box before passing it to Any Aalona, who created space for her self with a beautiful fake shot before firing a shot from 16-yards into the bottom corner of the net to double the lead.
“I was just happy to play and support my team,” Castro said. “To come in and score and assist just made it even better. I always try and go out there and do anything I can and to have played a part in this and help us reach the regional final means everything.”
Seven Lakes continued to dominate in the second half and quickly put any thoughts of a comeback to bed when Kennedy Reed headed in a corner kick in the 49th minute for another goal.
“We just reminded them at halftime that this can change in an instant and it’s all about how you come out in that second half,” Eidson said. “Playoffs are not like district and you have to have that right intensity. They came out with that in the second half and got that third goal. They played for each other and it’s what go us over the line.
The Spartans defense held Pearland without any huge chances all game and had a tremendous day. They will try and do that same thing on Saturday when they play the winner of Jordan and Brazoswood in the Region III-6A Final with a chance to make the state tournament on the line.
“Success isnt’ a straight line, but these girls are playing their best soccer right now,” Eidson said. “They’re so coachable and we can make adjustments and do whatever we need and they execute it. They apply everything on field and that’s what we have to do if we want to keep moving forward.”
