Seven Lakes advanced to the area round for the second straight year, sweeping Fort Bend Austin 3-0 to earn the Spartans a spot in the second round.
Temi Sam-Olibale led the way offensively for Seven Lakes with 11 kills while Sameena Burns had 10, Heidi Wingate had eight and Lily Lott added six. Wingate also had three blocks while Clara Belcher led the team with three assists.
Seven Lakes will get a rematch in the area round from last year as the Spartans will play Stratford. Seven Lakes narrowly lost the matchup last year to Stratford in five sets (23-25, 12-25, 25-23, 26-24, 12-15) nearly erasing a two set deficit to win but coming up just short. If they were to win that match and Tompkins were to win its area round match it would set up a regional quarterfinal match between the two Katy ISD schools.
Jordan meanwhile, nearly pulled off a huge upset over a one seeded Ridge Point, one of the stronger teams in the Houston area. The Warriors took the lead twice in the match, winning set one and set three, but Ridge Point mounted a comeback to win sets four and five as the Warriors season came to an end with a strong performance in their first ever playoff appearance.
