The Board of Trustees for Katy Independent School District met for a work-study session on Monday, April 15th, twice going into closed session -- each time for the purpose of discussing and considering the Superintendent Ken Gregorski’s annual evaluation and contract, according to the published agenda for the board meeting.

Gregorski has served the district since 2019, after being appointed to the position as Lance Hindt’s replacement following allegations of bullying and plagiarism by the former superintendent.

Public comments at Monday’s meeting were sandwiched between the two closed sessions. The lone speaker, Tana Weiss, spoke in support of Gregorski and his leadership through the pandemic, Winter Storm Uri and COVID.

No comments were made by the board following either the first or second closed sessions.

In other action, the board discussed items including consideration of board approval of a contract for the connections of portable buildings at multiple campuses, and the repurposing of collaborative and flex space for classrooms at Robertson Elementary and Taylor High School, in order to accommodate student growth. Fifteen portable buildings have been identified for relocation from four campuses including Campbell Elementary, West Memorial Elementary, Bethke Elementary, and McDonald Junior High. Campuses receiving the portables include Taylor High, Adams Junior High, Robertson Elementary, Faldyn Elementary and Youngblood Elementary. Some of the campuses losing the portables have some building additions being built. Taylor High is also repurposing an area outside the cafeteria for classroom space; some offices are also being repurposed. Taylor High is expected to gain 300 students and 10 teachers as a result of an attendance boundary modification and from population growth resulting from the construction of a new apartment complex in the area.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 22 at the Board Room at the district’s Education Support Complex at 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy.
