After a long battle with many physical problems, Robert Thomas Cherry(Bob) went to be with His Lord on September 2, 2020, at home with his family.

Bob was born in Beadling (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania on March 17th, 1934 to Thomas Cherry and Rene(Buttignoli) Cherry. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1952 with honors and accolades as a champion distance runner. He entered the University of Pittsburgh on a full track scholarship, graduating in 1956 with a Petroleum Engineering degree, with honors and more accolades as a champion soccer player, still holding the scoring record today since 1956.

After graduation, Bob joined the United States Army for two years, stationed in Petersburg, Virginia. He was employed by Marathon Oil Company, remaining in their employ for 37 1/2 years.

In March of 1967, Bob married Cynthia (Haskell) Cherry, with whom he's been on a honeymoon for the past 53 years. Starting in Robinson, Illinois, the Cherry family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, then to Powell, Wyoming, back to Robinson, Illinois, and Lafayette, Louisiana. The next eight years were spent in the International division of Marathon Oil Company. The first four years in London, England, and the next four years in Aberdeen, Scotland, returning to the United States in 1985, proud to be a Texan for the past 35 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Robert Thomas Cherry II. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and five living children: Philip Scott Cherry, Ann (Cherry) Stodart and husband Eugene, Michelle (Cherry) Clark and husband Russ, Julie (Cherry) Kirkland and husband Guy, and Jonathan Martin Cherry. Bob is also survived by a brother, Tom and sister-in-law Cheryl, of Groveland, Florida, and a widowed sister, Marlene Nourigat, of Linesville, Pennsylvania. Bob is also survived by 16 incredible grandchildren, and eighteen doubly incredible Great Grandchildren, which were the joy of Bob's life. After Jesus Christ, Bob loved family more than anything. Bob and Cynthia were members of Second Baptist Church for 33 years. Bob was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
